A happy reminder that Denzel Washington plans to adapt each of the plays in August Wilson’s “Century Cycle,” the playwright’s 10 plays that each depict a different decade of Black American life in the 20th century. Nine are set in August’s hometown, Pittsburgh; one is set in Chicago (“Ma Rainey's Black Bottom”).
Denzel adapted “Fences” first.
